Durban Actors Studio Launches Specialised Training for KZN Artists
Written by: MyPressportal Team Save to InstapaperDurban, 01 June 2016 – The newly launched Durban Actors Studio opened its doors to performers from all walks of life in May. The studio is a division RSPA Theatre School, a successful, industry recognised, results driven performing arts training centre. Durban Actors Studio provides coaching for performers who are invested in continued training and improving their skills.
Cultivating a Performance Culture in Durban
The studio aims to address the lack of formal training for Durban artists – many of whom do not have formal qualifications in the arts – but who are passionate about performance and have the desire to improve their skills. There is wealth of untapped talent in Durban, which the studio aims to provide with quality training by professionals who are passionate about the performing arts, and who have teaching experience spanning decades.
Gill Brunings and Beverly Cooke-Tonnesen, two founding members, each have over twenty years experience studying, performing and teaching at a professional level.
Workshops and Weekly classes
Monthly workshops focus on detailed exploration of areas such as audition training, speaking for the stage, movement and monologue preparation. Weekly classes cover acting techniques and vocal training for students dedicated to intensive and rewarding classes.
Durban Actors Studio serves as an examination centre for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). Through training with the studio, artists are prepared to participate in this QCF certified exam.
Connect to the Industry
A one-year certification programme will be offered in 2017, underwritten by Trinity College UK.
Durban Actors Studio aims to function as a gateway to the local and international performing arts industry. Through project based work , students are introduced to producers, agents, professional performers and given the opportunity to learn first-hand what those roles entail.
