It’s the biggest night for South Africa’s comedy industry, and it only happens once a year. There really is nowhere else you should be on Saturday, 13 April 2024 as the very best of local comedy is celebrated at the 11th Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards.

A theatre at capacity, each plush seat filled by well-dressed comedians (yes, it happens), nominees, comedy fans from far and wide, friends, family, media, and photographers. The anticipation and excitement are electric. Chatter fills the air: Who will win? Hushed excitement as the seconds count down. And then…lights, sound, curtain, camera, comedy!

The 11th Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards returns to The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City to celebrate the best comedians and comedic content creators across 12 categories; to honour the winners with a Waldo trophy live on stage, to applause and cheers, tears and laughter, and tears of laughter.

Themed “You Think You Know South Africa,” this year’s awards event will be a glamorous night, including sketches, celebrities, and world-class production. SA’s top headliners will perform on one stage, all on the same night.

Always designed to support local talent, a packed line-up and cast means guests will be entertained by hilarious comedy sketches from our favourite funny people, including previous Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards winners Robby Collins, Celeste Ntuli, and David Kau, not to mention other heavyweights Khanyisa Bunu, Mojak Lehoko, Vafa Naraghi, and Dalin Oliver.

The incomparable Mpho ‘Popps’ Modikoane, himself a Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards winner, will host the awards, ensuring the audience is kept in stitches.
