Calling On That Signature South African Warmth For Visiting Swedish Ma-gish

What do you think of when you hear the word “magic”?

For some, it’s elves, fairies and unicorns. For others potions and spells. For others, rabbits and hats and ladies sawed in half.

In Cape Town in 2023, magic is much more than that. It’s about passion and joy. It’s about community and connection. It’s about making us feel like we can do anything. Home to some of the most inspirational magicians who have made a career of not only sparking wonder and curiosity in audiences of all ages but also facilitating deep introspection and epiphanies that those audiences would not have believed possible - or necessary - until they opened themselves up to our particular type magic.

Wolfgang Riebe is one such performer. He uses humour and illusion to motivate and inspire in corporate, social or commercial settings has such a passion for his craft and his country, that he aims to open up Cape Town to the world, by introducing the Mother City and her residents and guests to some of the globe’s best performers.

One of whom is magic royalty Love Melander (say: Loo-veh).

From the Swedish TV show The Magic Theatre in 1997 to the Swedish 2008 Grand Prix Close Up winner, Love Melander is an illusionist personally selected by Queen Silvia for the majesty's own birthday celebration - making him the only illusionist with a Royal Letter of Reference and during his years has literally performed from Castle to hut.

Professionally entertaining audiences of all ages as a magician since 1984, Love has performed in 59 countries, sometimes with large stage shows of modern magic and other times with mingling magic where he walks among the guests spreading wonder and admiration.

And for one night only - he’s performing in Cape Town! As part of a series of magic performances, hosted by Sebastiano O., showcasing South African magicians called “It’s Kind of Magic” - Love brings his one-of-a-kind energy to the stage at the Galloway Theatre on Friday The 13th. But don’t be scared!

Love's fantastic career as a show artist and entertainer, in Sweden as well as internationally has seen him obtain a multitude of awards and honours, which makes him the best choice if you want a Magi to mystify you. Sharing the stage with Love will be Wolfgang, himself, as well as local performers - the man who made Table Mountain disappear, Alexander May, and an Escape Artist with the spirit of Houdini himself - the great Glendini!

So, dust off that good ol’ South African hospitality. Show our Swedish guest, Love, a good time, and support our local fellas while we’re at it. The rainbow nation is renowned for welcoming foreigners with open arms, showing them who we are, and sharing our culture with them. Love is eager to make some great South African memories, so come and meet him:
