Free State audiences are in for two nights of big laughs when André the Hilarious Hypnotist brings his wildly unpredictable stage show to Welkom and Bloemfontein. The tour opens at Goldfields Casino in Welkom on 31 August at 19:00, before heading to the Aasvoël Club in Bloemfontein on 1 September at 20:00. Tickets are available through Quicket.

What to expect

For more than 35 years, André has been turning audience volunteers into the stars of the show. Each performance is different, with the crowd helping shape whatever happens next. That's the magic of it: no script, no fixed cast, no two shows the same. "The audience doesn't just watch the show - the audience is the show," says André. "Every group brings something completely different, and that keeps it fresh, spontaneous and huge fun."

Blending hypnosis, comedy and quick-fire theatrical timing, André creates a fast-moving, feel-good experience for volunteers on stage and everyone enjoying the chaos from their seats. Participation is always voluntary. Guests can join in or simply sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

Career and return dates

André began his stage-hypnosis career in 1994, after training under legendary South African hypnotist Max Collie. Since then, he has performed across Southern Africa and abroad, appeared on television more than 200 times and built a loyal following of fans who keep coming back for more.

His return to Bloemfontein feels like a homecoming. One of his early major shows took place at the Bloemfontein Civic Theatre, where extra performances had to be added after the response to the first run. Welkom audiences can also look forward to his return to Goldfields Casino, where his shows have already introduced many local volunteers to the fun and madness of live comedy hypnosis.

With winter still in the air, audiences are encouraged to bring a blanket, settle in and enjoy a warm, laughter-filled night out.
