Introducing South African singing sensation Khanyo Maphumulo

Khanyo Maphumulo is a seasoned South African female singer that was born in the township of KwaMashu in Durban. Being born into a musical family, she was naturally drawn to music and performing. Khanyo’s professional singing career started at the tender age of 13 when she was approached to do lead vocals in the well renowned musical drama, Sarafina. To date, the talented singer has featured on more than 50 local and international albums.
During the 1990’s she toured South Africa, Europe, and the United States with the likes of Jabu Khanyile, Caiphus Semenya, Hugh Masekela, Busi Mhlongo and Mango Groove, Juluka, Ringo Madlingozi, as well as international artists such as Oleta Adams, Angelique Kidjo, Patti Austin and Simply Red. starred in the award-winning plays Hair, Stamping, Mzansi (Produced by Caiphus Simenya and Quincy Jones), and vibrating Africa. In the year 2 000, Khanyo graced the acting stage as she starred in award-winning plays such as Hair, Stamping, Mzansi (Produced by Caiphus Simenya and Quincy Jones), and vibrating Africa.
The talented singer has done a lot of work for bands such as Mango Groove, Ringo Mandlingozi, Vusi Khumalo, Yvonne Chakachaka between 2010 to 2012. She has recently been working with the play Songs of Migration by James Ngcobo and the legendary Bra Hugh Masikela featuring the likes of Sibongile Khumalo, Gloria Bosmaan.
She has toured eight cities in the United States where she performed for former President Mr. Thabo Mbeki in New York in September 2006 as he attended UN meetings and even had the privileged to share a song with R Kelly. Since then, Khanyo has been performing on stages worldwide as both backing top acts from all around the world while working on new material for her upcoming album titled Khumbulekhaya which she will be launching on the 6th and the 7th of April 2020 at Chill Awt Lifestyle in Ermelo, Mpumalanga. The event will also take place virtually on Instagram and Facebook between 15h00 – 16h00.
