Show Description
What To Expect
Roots Retrospective is a deeply expressive live collaboration led by Luna Paige, where she draws together roots influences into a piano-driven, song-focused performance.
Inspired by the lineage of classic folk, blues and jazz vocalists, her work is grounded in storytelling and emotional honesty, shaped through a distinctly South African lens.
With expressive piano and acoustic guitar textures at its core, her music is carried by a powerful, soulful voice that has become her signature.
Rooted in English-language songwriting, Luna’s catalogue spans over two decades of Americana-inspired material, resonating strongly within folk, folk-rock, country, and blues communities where narrative-driven, stripped-back performance remains central.
Her delivery blends blues sensibility with roots-driven warmth and poetic depth, creating intimate, unembellished performances that speak to audiences drawn to authenticity and tradition.
Hugo Veldsman Joins The Performance
Joining her on stage is acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitarist Hugo Veldsman, whose acoustic minimalism, fingerstyle guitar work, and atmospheric approach add a rich sonic counterpoint to the set.
Drawing from Americana, folk, and blues traditions—and grounded in classical guitar training—Hugo is known for his expressive, technically refined playing, from intricate fingerpicking to soulful lap steel textures, often described as “tasty and languid” in feel.
He also contributes a selection of his own similarly styled songs, woven seamlessly into the performance.
Roots Retrospective
Together, Luna Paige and Hugo Veldsman create Roots Retrospective—a cohesive, immersive musical journey that celebrates shared influences and reimagines Americana-inspired music through a deeply personal, reflective, and collaborative South African lens.
