The ultimate Father’s Day tribute: 50 years after his grandfather’s stunt wowed South Africa, Didi Bizzarro brings the fire back to Durban
In 1975, a daredevil lit up the Rand Show with a fiery car stunt that became a defining moment in local motorsport history. This June, his grandson, international stuntman and third-generation showman Didi Bizzarro, will bring that iconic act back to life in South Africa.
Known for his work in Fast X, John Wick, and Red Notice, Bizzarro will headline Gas Motorshow 2025 with a tribute performance that spans three generations of stunt mastery. It all takes place in Durban over Father’s Day weekend, 14-15 June—a fitting time to honour the family legacy that started it all.
“It’s a very personal moment for me,” said Bizzarro.”To honour my grandfather by bringing this stunt back to South Africa—precisely 50 years later—is something I’ll never forget. There’s history behind it, but also a challenge: to do it justice with today’s precision and showmanship. I want it to be a real Father’s Day experience—not just for my family, but for everyone watching.”
Bizzarro is the only stuntman in the world capable of performing precision stunts in a car, on a bike, and with a truck—all at a single event. From drifting and tilting a BMW onto two wheels, to high-speed bike tricks and jaw-dropping truck manoeuvres, Bizzarro’s performance will be a tribute, a spectacle, and a world-class masterclass in motion. Daunting for most, it’s just another day at work for the acclaimed stuntman.
Aside from Bizzarro’s incredible stunt performance, showgoers have plenty to look forward to. Freestyle motocross performances by top riders like Jacques Roema and Monster Energy’s Dallen Goldman—whose high-flying tricks include 22-metre backflips and acrobatics with airbag landings—will stun the crowds.
A wide range of cars will be on display, from JDM favourites and classic customs to stanced builds and drag racers. The Sound Off competition returns with internationally ranked judging, and well-known names from South Africa’s car scene will make an appearance.
Beyond motorsport, Gas Motorshow has evolved into a full-scale festival, featuring gaming tournaments, raffles, giveaways, family activations, and kids’ entertainment. The music lineup includes Kelvin Momo, Dlala Thukzin, Blended SA, Liam Hans, and Summer Heyns on Saturday, with DJ Kent, MiCasa, Nivaad Singh, and others performing on Sunday.
Gates open at 9 am and close at midnight on Saturday and 11 pm on Sunday. Ticket prices range from R300 to R1,500, with free entry for children under 10 and discounted rates for pensioners. Tickets are available online via Webtickets and at Pick n Pay outlets nationwide.
