New 5 GHz high-end backhaul device from LigoWave
Written by: Howard Mellet Save to InstapaperDuxbury Networking has released a new 5 GHz, license-free, wireless backhaul device from its principal LogoWave targeted at Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs), telecoms users and carrier-grade customers.
The LigoPTP 5-23 Unity is a point-to-point device that makes use of 2x2 MiMo (multiple-input and multiple-output) technology to deliver an aggregate Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) throughput capability of up to 220 Mbps, or 110 Mbps in full-duplex mode.
“The LigoPTP supports wire-speed Quality of Service and link failover via an integrated 23 dBi antenna enabling carrier-class point-to-point functionality,” says Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking. “With high packets-per-second performance - 140,000 pps - it is ideal for dedicated access or backhaul applications, including VoIP or other small-packet handling tasks.”
Robb says the new LigoWave offering features an integrated link-bonding option to double the capacity to 400+ Mbps (200 Mbps in full-duplex mode). “Link bonding is achieved by a powerful CPU using a fair-queuing mechanism. The throughput - or backup - is not only doubled, but it also ensures radio link redundancy at the same time,” he explains.
Key features of the LigoPTP 5-23 Unity include an integrated dual-polarised antenna (ruggedized for outdoor use), an external organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen for antenna alignment and a radio rate of up to 300Mbps. LigoWave’s W-jet-2 proprietary protocol allows for longer distance links and greater noise immunity.
The LigoPTP 5-23 Unity, which is priced at R 7999 (ex VAT) from Duxbury Networking, is also compatible with LigoWave’s online link calculator and RCMS, a centralised configuration, firmware and statistics server offered by LigoWave for carrier class diagnostics and configuration.
