Performance boost for high-volume V-band wireless networks

Written by: Howard Mellet Save to Instapaper

In a bid to improve the performance of high-capacity wireless networks using the license-exempt 60GHz frequency band (V-band), Duxbury Networking has teamed with BridgeWave Communications to offer South African customers a low-latency, carrier-grade, point-to-point wireless backhaul solution.

The BridgeWave AR60 medium range and AR60X extended range Ethernet bridges are designed to provide full-duplex, wireless gigabit performance with robust network security when transporting high volumes of data over short distances – up to 1.5 km – such as between a base station and a data aggregation hub.

“The bridges offer interference-free operation which enables secure high-density deployments,” says Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking. “They can be used in alternative, wireless-based solutions to fibre network applications as they offer significant cost and speed of deployment benefits.”

He adds that the Bridgewave links are ideally positioned to provide wireless redundancy to existing fibre networks or extend their reach.

Features of the BridgeWave AR60 and AR60X bridges include highly directional, narrow antenna beamwidths, plus AdaptRate mode switching and AdaptPath link switching geared to overcome connectivity ‘fades’ due to rain or fog.

The bridges are priced between R 99,000 (for the AR60) and R 120,000 (for the AR60X) excluding VAT.
