New tech changes marine battery industry

Not only the automotive industry is cleaning up their emissions by going electric, the marine industry is getting onboard too.
In 2019, the Danish all-electric ferry Ellen went on its maiden voyage of 20km, powered by 840 lithium-ion batteries and radically cutting carbon emissions.
Studies indicate the maritime industry is the fourth biggest sector contributing to worldwide emissions. Thankfully manufacturers have realised the importance of their role in making a positive change during these challenging climate times.
Taking tips from Ellen
Manufacturers are looking at new technologies for marine batteries to maintain their efficiency.
That’s why Ellen is such a great case study for this industry. The first of its kind, Ellen is more powerful than a Tesla; in fact, it has 57 times the battery capacity of a Tesla.
Ellen is designed to be fail safe. Should some of the battery modules fail, the others will continue to power the ferry. What’s more, the batteries only charge when passengers have disembarked the ferry.
Powering batteries up
Marine batteries are more than robust, they’re designed and manufactured to power the vessel and its systems for long periods, and sometimes in extreme conditions.
Marine batteries from First National Battery power up jet skis and boats, and with water sports becoming ever more popular these batteries are more popular and in demand.
