The Swiss culture is very versatile and full of variety. Different languages and traditions live in a very small space and yet combine to represent one nation.
On one hand, the Swiss people practice and keep age-old traditions, celebrating their history and roots, and on the other hand, Switzerland is an important centre for modern science, technology, architecture and engineering.
Switzerland is well-known for its mountains, chocolate, and cheese and for being a nation that is ruled by perfectionism and timed by precision watches. Of course, there's always a little truth in every stereotypical cliché, and the Swiss certainly have a knack of improving and perfecting to greater standards. The truth is that Switzerland’s culture is shaped by many nations, creating a multi-faceted culture where age-old traditions still thrive. As a landlocked country without many natural resources the inventiveness and innovations that were borne led to economic wealth. Switzerland is amongst the world leaders in technology, trade and finance.
Against this backdrop, Geberit was founded more than 140 years ago, and began as a family business. At the turn of the century, 1905, Albert Emil Gebert succeeded in producing the first wooden flushing cistern that was lined with lead and equipped with leaden fittings. He called it “Phoenix”, the same name as the name of the house where he had his plumber’s shop.
Since then, the Gebert brothers developed the company and their products step by step with their down-to-earth attitude, to where it is now.
On closer inspection it is clear that the Geberit products are closely connected with Switzerland’s mentality and culture. Reliability, cleanliness, craftsmanship, innovation and the often meticulous search for perfection is mirrored in all Geberit products. Today, the reliability and quality of the products are tested in-house a million times and are further certified by international testing centres and inspection authorities all over the world. Sustainability in production, handling and disposing thereof, is taken very seriously as Geberit want to contribute to clean air and water, across the globe.
Although Geberit is not a family driven company anymore, it still embraces that spirit.
