3 Reasons Children Are More Prone to Warts… and How to Treat Them!

The summer holidays mean more time spent outdoors, swimming in the pool, and playing with friends—but they also bring a higher chance of warts for kids. While adults are not immune, warts are much more common in children. Here’s why.

“It’s estimated that around a third of children or teenagers will contract warts, but the number is significantly lower once you reach adulthood,” noted Lynsey Hammond, MD of Kroko, manufacturers of quality foot and hand care products. “Summertime is generally the worst season in terms of viral spread because they thrive in the heat and humidity, but fortunately, they’re easily treated.”

1. More Frequent Exposure

As temperatures rise in summer, children spend more time at swimming pools and use public facilities like locker rooms. They’re also more likely to share towels, socks, or other personal items—ideal conditions for the wart virus to spread.

2. More Time Barefoot

Children often run around barefoot, both at school and during summer holidays. This increases their risk, as small nicks or scrapes on their feet can provide a direct entry point for the wart virus. Running barefoot on infected surfaces can lead to plantar warts, a common concern.

3. Developing Immune Systems

A child’s immune system is still developing. As they come into contact with germs more frequently, they are less capable of fighting off the viral infections that cause warts compared to adults. This makes them particularly susceptible.

How to Treat Warts

All warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which has over 100 different strains. While warts may disappear on their own, they can be treated efficiently using at-home solutions like Kroko WartFix.

Kroko WartFix is a flexible liquid application that forms a waterproof covering over the wart. It must be applied directly to the wart (not the surrounding skin) and reapplied twice a day until the wart clears or falls off, usually within two weeks. This simple and cost-effective solution ensures that warts don’t linger longer than necessary.
