The Brightwater commons to launch first annual Model Car and Toy Fair
Submitted by: Sarann BuckbyOn Sunday the 29th July 2012, toy collectors and interested parties will be delight by the miniature play-things on offer at the Toy Fair taking place at the Brightwater Commons from 9am – 4pm. Entrance to the fair will be R10, but there will also be a free concert at Brightwater happening from 2 – 4pm.
Toy collectors are invited to come along to revel in the 50 tables of toys on exhibition and sale. Model car collectors and petrol-heads alike will be glad to know that 30 of these tables have been allocated to custom made, collectable and antique toy cars. The cars will be in a scale of 1/87 up to 1/18 and ranging in price.
A custom 1932 Ford Highboy will be on sale and the Ford Anglia 59 can be found for R300. Model Cadillac’s, Ferrari’s and Chevy’s are just some of the much-loved brands that have been re-designed as identical miniature impressions of their full-size counterparts. If your tastes sway towards modernity and concept cars, do not despair; the car from “Dr Seuss’ Cat in the Hat” among other concept models will be on show.
“Matchbox cars, Hot Wheels, Ferrari’s, Dinky Toys and Corgi Toys are some of the most popular categories and all will be on sale at the Toy Fair. Collecting toys has become very popular in South Africa and we are glad to launch this fair at a shopping centre for the first time,” says Francois Richards, owner of Richies Model Cars.
If collecting dolls and teddy bears is more up your alley, there will be porcelain Shirley Temple dolls available as well as custom made 50’s and 60’s teddy bears amongst others.
“It’s really just an afternoon of fun and enjoyment that we believe will appeal to young, old and everyone in between. We hope that people find the collectibles they’re looking for and at the same time enjoy the free 60’s and 70’s –themed concert”, says Francois Du Buisson, Marketing Manager of the Brightwater Commons.
Launch of Cool Concerts
While the Toy Fair is launched at the centre, ‘Cool Concerts’ is launched on the same day. A series of three free concerts on the last day of July, August and September, the entertainment is brought to you by Simply 4, an established South African cover band. The series will follow eras in music, beginning with the 60’s and 70’s on the 29th July. Patrons are welcomed to bring with them a blanket and enjoy the entertainment provided, whilst sharing a relaxing Sunday with loved ones.
