Donate a blanket and keep a child warm this winter
Submitted by: Sarann BuckbyThe Brightwater Commons, a Fountainhead retail asset, will be hosting the K.I.D.S (Kids in Dire Striates) Blanket Run taking place on 19th May between 8:30am and 5pm.The Harley Owners Group (HOG) Johannesburg Chapter began this blanket drive in 2008, aiming to collect blankets for children before the on-set of Winter. Always on the lookout for deserving charities and inspiring opportunities to become involved in philanthropic activities, the HOG's Johannesburg Chapter will once again stir the public to action. Any licensed bike riders are welcome to join in the ride from the various departure points to the Brightwater Commons on the morning of the 19th May. For those who do not ride and simply wish to donate a blanket, Pick ‘n Pay at the Brightwater Commons is offering blankets for the cause at just R50. Any additional proceeds collected will go to charity and will be used to purchase blankets to add to the bundle. The blankets will be distributed to a number of charities by Round Table, Acorn foundation and Akani foundation.“We encourage the community to participate, riders and non-rider are welcomed. Giving warmth to a child is the least we can do. We are honoured to be a part of this event and hope that everyone can see the urgency of the great need that exists,” says Francois du Buisson, Marketing Manager at the Brightwater Commons."Come to Brightwater and welcome the riders into the centre as they arrive. It's a spectacle and certainly creates a festive atmosphere. A bit of fun with a meaningful purpose - that is what it's all about".Mix FM will broadcast live from the Brightwater Commons between 10am and 7pm. “Engaging, interacting and supporting our community is one of the core values at Mix 93.8FM. The KIDS Blanket Run initiative speaks to the innate responsibility we have as a community to care for our fellow citizens, particularly the less fortunate and more so generation next. Mix 93.8FM hopes to mobilise our listeners to participate along with the entire team at the station,” says Ashley Harris, Head of Community Events at Mix FM.For more information please visit www.brightwatercommons.co.za or contact them on 011 789 5052.
