Johannesburg Manufacturer Launches One of South Africa’s First AI Wallpaper Visualiser

Wallpaper Online introduces a free AI-powered Room Visualiser that allows South Africans to preview wallpaper on their own walls before they buy.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed the way people shop, design and make decisions. Now, it is entering South Africa’s wallpaper industry.

Johannesburg-based manufacturer Wallpaper Online has launched what is believed to be one of South Africa’s first AI-powered wallpaper Room Visualisers, allowing shoppers to see how a design will look on their own wall before committing to a purchase.

The free tool runs directly in a browser, with no app or account required. Shoppers simply select a wallpaper design, upload or photograph their room, and the technology renders the design onto the wall in less than a minute.

They can test unlimited designs, compare patterns and colours, and make a more informed decision before ordering.

Realistic wallpaper preview

While room visualisers have existed internationally for some time, many have traditionally produced flat, unrealistic renders. This new generation of AI-powered visualisation offers a far more realistic preview and remains uncommon within the South African wallpaper category.

According to visualisation technology provider Roomvo, shoppers who preview products in their own spaces are three times less likely to regret their purchase.

Local innovation and product range

The launch forms part of Wallpaper Online’s broader focus on local innovation. The company has also introduced a textured peel-and-stick wallpaper range, bringing linen and woven-look finishes to a removable, paste-free format that remains uncommon in South Africa.

Wallpaper Online’s products are printed in Johannesburg using GreenGuard Gold certified low-VOC (healthy) inks and are available in peel-and-stick, textured peel and stick, traditional paper and DuraMatte fabric options. DuraMatte has been developed specifically for the lightly textured plaster walls that are commonly found in South African homes.
