Gert-Johan Coetzee Unveils ‘Reflections’ – Autumn-Winter 2027 Collection At South African Fashion Week

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA , 25 October 2026 -Renowned South African luxury fashion house Gert-Johan Coetzee officially presented its Autumn-Winter 2027 collection, titled Reflections, at South African Fashion Week. 

The runway showcase also marked a major brand milestone with the launch of a dedicated range of couture-inspired bridal gowns, expanding the fashion house’s footprint in luxury wedding wear. 

Rooted in nostalgic childhood memories of growing up on a farm - observing water, light, and movement beside a quiet pond - the collection explores the fluid space between memory and reality, identity and perception. Through liquid-like textiles, organic sculptural forms, high-texture outerwear, and masterwork embellishments, Reflections offers a contemplation of who we were versus who we have become. 

"This collection returns to the simplicity of where my imagination first took shape," says designer Gert-Johan Coetzee. 

"Water mirrors what sits on the surface, but beneath it lies infinite depth. With 'Reflections,' we translate that duality into garment design - balancing strength with vulnerability, and bold structural tailoring with organic, flowing movement. "Sometimes, to discover who we are, we must return to where we began." Long before the runways, the flashing cameras and the extraordinary world of fashion, there was a young boy sitting beside a pond on a farm. 

Away from the noise and demands of everyday life, Gert-Johan Coetzee would find solitude beside the water. It was a place where the world seemed to slow down, where his imagination could wander without interruption. Looking into the pond, he would see his own reflection, unaware of just how much that boy, and the world around him, would one day change. 

Years later, that simple childhood memory has become the inspiration behind Reflections, Coetzee's Autumn/Winter 2027 collection. 

But this is not merely a nostalgic return to the past. It is an exploration of identity, ambition and the distance between the people we once were and those we eventually become. 

What happens when the person you have spent your life becoming finally meets the person you used to be?

For Coetzee, the pond becomes a powerful metaphor. Water reflects what stands before it, yet beneath its surface exists an entirely different world. Much like people, what is visible rarely tells the whole story. 

We spend much of our lives constructing an image of ourselves, shaped by expectations, achievements, disappointments and the opinions of others. Over time, that image can become so familiar that we forget to question whether it still reflects who we truly are. 

Reflections explores this delicate relationship between our public identities and our private realities. The collection considers the contradictions that make us human: strength alongside vulnerability, confidence alongside uncertainty, and the desire to be seen alongside the instinct to remain hidden. 

Collection notes: 

Inspired by farm ponds, water movement, and organic reflections, the color palette transitions from aquatic cobalts and teals to earthy greens, rusts, and graphic houndstooth. 

Scale-like petal appliqués, floor-length fringe, pom-pom jackets, and hand-embroidered details add dynamic surface texture throughout. 

Anchoring the showcase, a series of romantic ballgowns marks the debut of Gert-Johan Coetzee’s new dedicated range of couture-inspired bridal wear.

The Autumn/Winter collection will be on sale from May 2027.
