A STAND OUT KITCHEN IN STEYN CITY

A design delight, this statement Steyn City kitchen – manufactured and installed by Dezign A Door – is the epitome of perfection, celebrating contemporary clean lines and modern finishes. Scandinavian-inspired, with top quality workmanship and imported appliances, this room adds significant value to the home and is an undisputed asset.
The dream kitchen was conceptualised by Hayley Weissensee the home owner who also has a flair for design. She says it took about a year to fully formalise her vision for this important room. Believing simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, Weissensee says, “We wanted a kitchen that would be beautiful and functional. The Scandinavian look - with its uncluttered appeal and simple, clean lines, was the feel we were intent on creating.”
Weissensee loves working with shades of grey and raw wood, believing it’s a versatile palette. “With grey you can effortlessly introduce splashes of colour if that’s what you want. We chose Dezign A Door’s dead matt Duco sprayed finish in a deep Piombo grey for all our cabinetry, with sophisticated J-grip doors to add to the clean look. The counter tops are slim line and introduced another dimension to the kitchen as they have a unique appearance,” says Weissensee.
Everything in the kitchen is soft close and the Aventos HF bi-fold cabinet lift system brings motion to the wall cabinet and is a tech addition that’s in step with the mod cons you’d expect in an avant-garde kitchen. Under counter LED lighting adds to the drama and mood of the kitchen. As a family who love to cook and entertain, they installed a state of the art Kaelo integrated wine cooler. This touch-sensitive unit keeps wine chilled without ice or water.
At the centre of this spacious kitchen is a large Dekton island in Orynx – a comfortable space conducive to creative cooking. Its magnificence is reflected in an oversized mirror on a wall at the end of the kitchen. The island is fitted with Gaggenau gas plates, a tepanyaki, a built in steamer and Blanco prep basin. “We opted not to add bar stools to our island, preferring to keep it exclusively for food preparation and cooking which helped maintain the clean lines of the counter tops.”
Easily accessible and adding to the stylish finish; the Gaggenau ovens, microwave and warmer are integrated into the back wall of units. The home uses solar energy and is fitted with gas and electrical appliances. A built in central vacuum wall inlet plate and internal ventilation ducts have been installed in the kick plates - out of sight; a design move that honours the aesthetics of the room.
When commenting on the layout of the kitchen, Weissensee says that she considered what would work best for her family and went with a galley design. A firm believer that drawers are more functional than cupboards – the ratio of drawers to doors in this kitchen – favours drawers also with J-grip handles.
Although there’s a large bar on the patio – the family wanted an intimate bar for dinner parties; a setting from which to serve Champagne, gin cocktails and specialty coffees. And so it was that a mini-bar was added with a touch to open Liebherr wine fridge. A smoked mirror backing, floating shelf in Seno brushed bronze, and LED down lighting, all combine to create a style statement; the ultimate solution for mixing the perfect martini.
A dream project, Weissensee says she appointed Dezign A Door because she has worked with them in the past and their manufacturing quality is outstanding. “They have an amazing team and go above and beyond to make sure your cabinetry is exceptional.”
