Keep Fleas And Ticks From Turning Warmer Months Hectick For Your Pets
Spring and summer are pawsitively perfect for outdoor adventures with your four-legged best friend. From longer walks and beach days to garden zoomies and sun-soaked cat naps, warmer weather brings plenty of opportunities for pets and their owners to enjoy the outdoors. 🐾☀️
However, these sunny months can also bring some unwelcome tag-alongs — fleas and ticks. When these parasites arrive, things can quickly become properly hectick for both pets and their owners.
Fortunately, keeping fleas and ticks off your dog or cat can be simple with the right knowledge and effective products, such as those available in the Bob Martin Clear Tick and Flea range.
The Comb Test For Fleas
If your pet is scratching more than usual, it may be time to investigate.
A quick way to check is by running a flea comb through your pet’s coat or gently brushing the fur upwards near the base of the tail. If you notice tiny jumping insects or small black specks that resemble ground coffee, you may be seeing flea dirt — a mixture of digested blood that indicates fleas are present.
Spotting flea dirt is often the first clear sign of an infestation.
Ticks Are A Different Story
Unlike fleas, ticks do not jump or fly. Instead, they wait in long grass, shrubs, or leaf litter, attaching themselves to passing animals.
Once attached, ticks feed on a pet’s blood and may remain in place for several days if not removed.
Common areas where ticks hide include:
- Around the ears
- Under collars
- Between the toes
- Under the tail
- In the armpit area
They often feel like small bumps on the skin and can easily be mistaken for skin tags.
Beyond irritation, ticks can pose more serious health risks. Heavy infestations may lead to anaemia, particularly in smaller pets, and certain tick species can transmit dangerous diseases.
According to Bob Martin’s consulting veterinarian, regular checks are essential.
“Ticks are more than just a nuisance. Because they attach firmly and feed for several days, they can weaken pets over time and potentially transmit disease. Regular checking, especially after outdoor activity, and consistent monthly prevention are essential to reduce risk.”
Wash, Treat, Repeat
Using a tick and flea shampoo or dip can help remove visible parasites, making it a useful first step when treating an affected pet.
However, these treatments do not provide long-term protection. For effective control, they should be followed with longer-lasting preventative solutions, such as spot-on treatments, sprays, or collars.
Dr Jan explains:
“Prevention is far easier than managing a full infestation. Consistent monthly treatment, combined with cleaning bedding and living areas, keeps parasite numbers under control throughout the year.”
Protect Pets All Season Long
The Bob Martin Clear Tick and Flea range includes powders, shampoos, sprays, and spot-on treatments specially formulated for dogs and cats. These products help break the parasite lifecycle and prevent reinfestation, keeping pets comfortable and protected.
Do not let fleas and ticks turn your season hectick. With regular checks, good hygiene, and trusted protection, these parasites do not stand a chance.
Bob Martin HealthCare Plus helps protect the pets you love, supporting longer, healthier lives for dogs and cats — for the longest time.
