The Ilanga Cup is thrilled to announce that Potensa has joined the 2022 event as a sponsor.
The multinational brand in energy solutions, specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of industrial battery solutions. Their involvement in the Ilanga Cup will add a significant value to the event and assist in powering the future of South African engineers who are developing sustainable solutions to mobility and environmental challenges.
“We are delighted to welcome Potensa in the Ilanga Cup. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside one of South Africa’s leading energy solution companies,” said Robert Walker, Director of the Ilanga Cup. “This partnership will aid in spreading the alternative and sustainable energy conversation even further, and also position the event as an ideal platform to test different energy concepts.”
Potensa will focus on guiding the solar car teams toward cutting-edge energy solutions and ensuring that the teams fall within the technical regulations as build-up to the international solar event in September, the 2022 Sasol Solar Challenge.
“As Potensa’s staff are highly skilled in energy advisory and aligned services, working closely with a broad range of customers to find solutions that are tailor-made to suit their unique and specific requirements, our involvement with Ilanga Cup was a natural next step”, said Darren McDonald, Potensa’s National Sales Manager. “We want to assist the competing solar car teams to apply the theory they have learnt in a classroom into a practical application.”

About Ilanga CupThe Ilanga Cup is South Africa’s first closed track endurance circuit event, which is focused on driving the innovation of renewable and alternative energy. The event takes place annually and has been created for local solar car teams to put their solar vehicles to the test in a controlled environment, designed and focused on measuring the vehicles' performance, efficiency, and durability.
The Ilanga Cup serves as a platform for solar car teams - professionals and amateurs alike - to not only test their solar cars but also learn and improve both team and the vehicle dynamics. With these opportunities, the aim is to nurture young and upcoming solar car teams and grow existing solar car teams in order to be able to compete in larger-scale events that are internationally recognised such as our very own South African Sasol Solar Challenge.
About PotensaPotensa, is a proudly South African power and energy company, specialising in the design, manufacture and supply of industrial battery solutions to a broad range of customers across Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
