June 2015 – Habitat for Humanity South Africa, is set to bring together hundreds of active citizens Working together to help build a community’s dream, by helping the community to build homes in Pelican Park in Cape Town. Join Habitat in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Power Construction, City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government and help build a thriving community in Pelican Park.

The team build provides valuable funding for our Social Facilitation Programme, which empowers communities to build their own sustainable future.”

Habitat’s Social Facilitation Programme encompasses capacity building that capacitates the homeowners with the information they need to make informed decisions about their home and community.  Educating them and helping the homeowners to understand the housing development process from; the role of the stakeholders, the design of their house and other important practical homeowner information as covered in Habitat’s consumer education module. We are also looking at DIY workshops to foster practical skills for new homeowners whilst building relationships with their neighbours.  Throughout the process Habitat coaches, mentors and empowers the homeowners with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions, to understand and value their home as an asset and the responsibilities associated with this investment.
