Emfuleni residents in the dark over power cuts
Submitted by: MyPressportal TeamEmfuleni Mayor must step up and address chronic power cuts. Calls for assistance often fall on deaf ears with officials being nowhere to be seen as residents struggle without electricity.
The Three Rivers community in Emfuleni has been struggling with power cuts for the last three weeks (see pictures attached). Other affected areas include Vanderbijl Park and Eligwa Estate, where power supply is routinely interrupted. Some areas have been without electricity for days on end while other suffer chronic blackouts that last for hours at a time. Businesses are forced to close their doors as the municipality drags its feet in addressing the issue, jobs are being put at risk as a result.
Locals are complaining about the unavailability of local contact centers and municipal officials as blackouts persist. Residents have had to repair a faulty connection themselves in some cases, clearly putting their safety in grave danger due to the inadequate responses from the municipality. This also follows recent reports of two explosions in quick succession which may have something to do with these chronic power outages.
The DA calls on the Mayor if Emfuleni to step in and assist residents who are battling poor power supply. Businesses are suffering and something must be done before their losses start to affect people’s jobs.
