25 May 2023: After a halt brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic and its lockdown restrictions, Santam’s Child Art project is back and calls on all school-going children and their teachers to take part in this exciting project under the theme; What the world needs now. Artworks that are submitted can be painted, drawn or any other method that can be used to express creativity.

Established in 1963, The Child Art project is one of the country’s oldest and most notable Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Projects, the project focusses on nurturing children’s love for the arts and also allows them to express themselves in different ways like painting and drawing.

“Art enhances a child's ability to interact with and interpret the world around them. It has the ability to cross cultural and linguistic barriers, and in South Africa it gives us the tools to be able to find and speak to each other,” says Tersia Mdunge, CSI manager at Santam.

The competition is open to all schools and art schools. Competition winners could walk away with R3000 in cash prize for their school, get featured in Santam’s 2024 Child Art calendar, and be part of the online exhibition reserved for selected pieces.

Over the years, the project has evolved into a multifaceted national project with initiatives such as informal art classes and Santam’s own annual art calendar.

The Child Art Project is aimed at all children, and Santam goes an extra mile to reach children in disadvantaged communities.

Entries close on 30 June 2023.
