It has come to the SAFPS' attention that an individual named Mr Hogan is endorsing a product on Facebook and claims that the SAFPS supports this product. "This is a possible investment scam," says Manie van Schalkwyk, CEO of the SAFPS, "it is important to note that the SAFPS will never endorse an investment product. The role of the SAFPS is to supply products, services and platforms that enable the prevention of fraud (through reporting) and to supply products and services that will assist members of the public who have become victims of scams that lead to fraud."
As the custodian of fraud prevention in Southern Africa, the Southern African Fraud Prevention Service (SAFPS) plays a central role in preventing fraud and assisting the public who have become victims of fraud through various scams. If the product that Mr Hogan is advertising is an investment scam, and a consumer has become a victim of this scam, the SAFPS recommends that they use the protective registration service on its website.
Protective registration is a free service protecting individuals against future application fraud. Consumers apply for this service, and the SAFPS alerts its members to take additional care when dealing with that individual's details. Protective Registration provides an added layer of protection and peace of mind regardless of whether the applicant's identity has been compromised.
"Visit our website at www.safps.org.za. Click on the fraud prevention tab and protect yourself against identity theft with Protective Registration. For the best results, use your smartphone to go to our website. Once you have uploaded key pieces of information, you will add another layer of protection against potential ID fraud," says Van Schalkwyk.
