One-third of new and used vehicles purchased in South Africa this year were bought by women. As more women own and drive cars in the country, ensuring better safety on our roads has become increasingly important. Women drivers, in particular, need to be extra vigilant to avoid falling prey to criminal activity.

• Ensure your tyres are properly inflated and have sufficient tread depth. Don’t forget to check the spare tyre as well.
• Regularly check your car’s oil, coolant, and brake fluid levels—you can stop at a nearby service station and ask them to check these for you.
• Make sure your windscreen wipers and washers are in good working condition.

3. Be Prepared for Emergencies

Having the right tools and supplies in your car can make a huge difference in case of an emergency. Ensure that your vehicle is equipped with:

• Jumper cables for restarting a dead battery.
• A car jack and spare tyre.
• A reflective triangle to warn other drivers if you need to stop on the side of the road.
• A car charger to keep your phone charged in case of emergency.
