Pretoria, South Africa – 13 March 2026 – Weelee, one of South Africa’s fastest-growing pre-owned automotive marketplaces, has officially broken ground on site for its newest megastore facility in Silver Lakes, Pretoria. This milestone marks the start of construction and a major step forward in the company’s national expansion strategy.
The new Weelee megastore will include 20 000m² of showroom space, creating capacity for almost 1 000 vehicles in a single world-class facility. The development will significantly expand the company’s ability to provide South African consumers with greater access to competitively priced pre-owned vehicles, improved stock availability, and an enhanced vehicle-buying experience.
This development also signals the beginning of Weelee’s aggressive national expansion plan, with additional large-scale megastore locations expected to roll out across the country over the next 18–24 months.
Transforming The Used-Car Marketplace
Weelee CEO Errol Levin described the groundbreaking as a pivotal moment for the company.
“Weelee announces the start of construction on its next megastore facility in South Africa, a major milestone in our continued growth,” says Levin.
“This next Weelee development marks another step in the growth of a technology-driven megastore model that will help shape the future of the automotive marketplace in South Africa.”
The new megastore will integrate digital inspections, data-driven pricing, and seamless connectivity with Weelee’s online marketplace platform, enabling faster, more transparent transactions for vehicle sellers, dealers, and buyers.
Levin added that the company’s expansion will also promote healthy competition in the used-car market, ultimately delivering greater choice and improved pricing for South African consumers.
Beyond strengthening the marketplace, the development is also expected to create new employment opportunities in Silver Lakes and surrounding communities, contributing to local economic growth during both the construction phase and ongoing operations.
Technology At The Core Of The Customer Experience
Technology will play a central role in the operations and customer journey at the new facility.
According to Weelee CTO Hennie Nel, the site will integrate the company’s award-winning Salesforce automation platform together with AI-powered vehicle search technology, directly into the in-store buying experience.
“Artificial intelligence will be incorporated into both the vehicle buying and selling journey,” says Nel.
“Customers will be able to use AI-powered natural search tools and self-service kiosks to explore vehicles, while our backend automation and data systems help deliver more competitive pricing and a more seamless purchasing experience.”
Nel added that as Weelee continues to collect and analyse vehicle data, the company’s AI pricing models will become even more powerful, creating further pricing advantages for customers and improving market transparency.
A New Customer-Focused Megastore Experience
According to Sam Ghisleni, Head of Marketing at Weelee, the new facility has been designed to combine advanced technology with a customer-first retail environment.
“The new Weelee megastore will feature a large vehicle showroom, in-house finance services, comfortable customer lounges, a coffee shop, and seamless integration of our digital tools for an effortless vehicle buying and selling journey,” says Ghisleni.
“All of this will be offered in a hi-touch, hi-tech environment designed to make the car-buying experience easier, faster, and more enjoyable for customers.”
Silver Lakes was selected as the location due to its strong market demand, accessibility, and significant growth potential within the greater Pretoria region.
“This groundbreaking signals the start of our next expansion wave, bringing Weelee closer to customers right across South Africa,” adds Ghisleni.
The Silver Lakes megastore is expected to officially open on 1 February 2027, with special launch offers and promotions set to be announced closer to the opening date.
Weelee says the new facility represents a bold step forward in delivering greater value, convenience, and innovation to South African car buyers and sellers.
The company looks forward to welcoming customers to this game-changing automotive retail space in February 2027, as part of its mission to redefine the pre-owned vehicle marketplace nationwide.
