Aimed at depoliticizing farming and stimulating job creation, the first episode of agricultural company Laeveld Agrochem’s series Nisboere was flighted on Channel 147A of VIA this week. “The message we want to convey is that with a little inspiration, a lot of passion and a small niche anyone can create a meaningful and sustainable living,” says Laeveld Agrochem marketing director, Corné Liebenberg.
Over 15 episodes, presenters Anrich Herbst, Chris de Clerq and Simonia Magardie visit small and unusual farms across the country and offer practical advice to viewers who may be interested in starting small-scale farms. The farming operations visited during the first series cover the spectrum from exotic mushrooms, discus fish and alpakkas to truffles, abalone and lavender.
Says Magardie, “I was awed by the sheer variety of the niche operations we saw, yet the one thing they all have in common is the hope and inspiration that spring from each.”
While the series covers 45 different farming operations in total, any South African with a niche or unusual type of farm can apply to appear on Nisboere by submitting their story and details on the “Wees op Nisboere” page of their website, www.nisboere.co.za
The program will be flighted at 20:00 every Monday night on VIA DStv Channel 147 and will be repeated every following Sunday at 17:30.
