AfriSam, a construction materials company, sponsored a group of entrepreneurs with disabilities to attend the SABC Disability Summit with the aim of assisting them to access business opportunities.
The event which took place recently was held at the SABC studios in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.
AfriSam assisted five SMMEs who have a hearing disability, to showcase their businesses at the SABC Disability Summit. These businesses are in construction, catering, tax consulting and app development.AfriSam’s assistance allowed the SMMEs to connect with all stakeholders within the disability ecosystem and proved to be a good networking platform. The event was in alignment with AfriSam’s Enterprise and Supplier Development Programme which also enhances training and job opportunities for South Africans with disabilities. Our aim is to empower people with skills that they can use to become self-reliant and, in the process, reduce poverty.
AfriSam ESD Manager – Betty Masinge ‘AfriSam strives to contribute towards improving skills within these enterprises to grow their competence in their trades and equip them with necessary material and equipment for the job at hand. At AfriSam, we believe in understanding the needs of communities in areas where we do business so that we are able to make meaningful contributions to their upliftment. We see this as a chance to improve the quality of life of not only our employees and their families, but also the communities around our operations.
