Afri Air Publishes New Guides on All-Weather Farm Drone Monitoring and Multispectral Scouting for Precision Crop Spraying

South African drone retailer addresses two persistent farm management challenges: monitoring gaps caused by harsh weather conditions and the cost of applying inputs uniformly across fields that are anything but uniform.

ERMELO, SOUTH AFRICA — Afri Air, a leading South African DJI enterprise drone retailer, has published two new guides for farm owners and grain producers where the gap between what a monitoring or spraying programme is supposed to deliver and what it actually delivers comes down to equipment limitations and data that does not exist.

Monitoring and spraying gaps

For farms relying on drone technology to watch crops, livestock, and perimeters, weather has always been the weak link. A system that performs on calm, clear days but goes quiet during dust storms, heatwaves, or high winds is not really monitoring anything; it is waiting for conditions to improve. For large-scale grain farmers applying herbicides, fungicides, or fertiliser at a flat rate across every hectare, the limitation is a different kind of gap: product going where the field does not need it, and stress zones receiving less than they require, because without zone-level data, every hectare looks the same from the cab of a sprayer.

How the new guides address the problem

The two articles examine how specific platforms and workflows close these gaps. The farm monitoring guide covers the DJI Dock 3's IP56 weatherproof rating and operating range across temperature and wind conditions, how scheduled automated routes shift monitoring from a weather-permitting activity into a standing operational capability, deployment configuration options for different property layouts, and how Afri Air approaches setup and support as a distributor rather than an operator.

The precision spraying guide examines how multispectral drone scouting with the DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral generates NDVI, GNDVI, and NDRE vegetation index maps, how those maps are converted into prescription files compatible with DJI Agras spraying drones, and how the workflow closes the loop between scouting data and variable-rate application across large grain operations.

One detail from the precision spraying guide worth noting: the same field that looks uniformly green from a windscreen survey can contain zones performing at meaningfully different levels within metres of each other, and the cost of treating them identically shows up in two directions at once.
