IVAN ZIMMERMANN IN TOUR D’AFRIQUE HOME STRETCH
Submitted by:
Actor Ivan Zimmermann will depart on his second-last stage of the tretcherous 12 000km Tour d’Afrique Cycle Adventure, which started in Cairo on 9 January this year.
This stage will depart from Dorp op die Berg and will stretch to Malmesbury. On his last day, he will be cycling from Malmesbury to Cape Town show the world that Leaders Never Quit!
Tonya Khoury, MD of South Africa’s foremost media insights provider, ROi Africa, the media monitoring sponsor of actor, says Ivan is in high spirits, especially after he entered South Africa last weekend.
“The Tour d’Áfrique, which took me through countries like through Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, provided me with a platform to make my dream and many children’s dreams come true. To take part in this adventure is an honour and it kept me very humble throughout. It was an experience that pushed me to understand grace and persistence” says Zimmermann.
“After a very hard off-road section in Springbok I am really exhausted. My legs are like jelly, but it is a mental game - you are so close to the end and tired, but something keeps you going. I am very determined to finish strong – I am in 3rd position overall and I have “Every Last Inch” status,” Ivan adds.
When asked what the toughest part of the Tour d’Afrique was, Ivan says that it was riding in Sudan, due to the heat. “Riding 200km for ten days in temperatures of 48˚C was pretty tough. I also remember the road into Marsabit in Kenya being a struggle as I had flu and I struggled to stay on the bike. Despite this I never considered quitting, not once…because Leaders Never Quit."
Ivan’s participation is also sponsored by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and Sage Pastel. Join Ivan at the V & A Waterfront on Saturday from 14.30hrs to welcome him back home! Also, feel free to tweet a well wish or a photo of yourself to any of the accounts below.
