Torre Parts and Components, the sole authorised Sub-Saharan Africa distributor for Textar brake friction products manufactured by TMD Friction, says the brand in gaining traction in the South African market. Textar is available for automotive, light commercial and heavy commercial vehicle applications.
TMD Friction is a global brand headquartered in Germany and the world’s largest manufacturer of brake friction products. The group produces one million brake friction products daily across 13 production sites in eight countries and this year celebrates its 103rd birthday.
Michelle Prevot, product manager, Brake, Torre Parts and Components, said over 1 000 part numbers, all with a 60 000km warranty, have now been launched in SA. The products are supported by traditional catalogues and via the online catalogue, Brakebook.com.
The website provides a graphical representation of each product, technical specifications and the manufacturer’s cross-reference table.
In terms of distribution, Textar products are now available throughout South Africa at a number of franchised motor spares retail outlets, but also through a growing network of independent spares retailers.
Ms Prevot said Textar is manufactured in line with stringent environmental requirements with the long-term aim to reduce energy consumption by up to 50%. She said that TMD is at the forefront of environmental protection. “Almost a decade ago the company was instrumental in developing the ECO-Table, a set of ecological and environmental classification standards for friction materials. This ranges from ECO I to ECO IV which is a universally recognised standard,” she said.
About Textar: Textar has been synonymous with premium friction products for over 100 years. Founded in 1913 as a sales company, it stands for high quality, optimum safety and the highest braking comfort worldwide. In the high performance sector, Textar brake pads are the first choice for vehicles fitted with carbon ceramic brake discs. And with good reason, since these pads have been developed in close collaboration with the disc manufacturer to find the perfect match.
Today, Textar offers the widest range of products and services for passenger cars currently built in the market. In the commercial vehicles sector, 70% of vehicles with drum brakes, and 50% of those with disc brakes, leave the assembly line fitted with Textar friction products.
