- Defining News – why do they print sensationalist stories?
- Being interviewed. A crucial part of this course. Here the delegates will be taught just how to deal with what can often be a tricky situation. How to be the perfect interviewee. This will cover various types of interview from newspaper and radio interviews to panel situations.
- Getting across clear messages and using the soundbite. There's nothing the press like better than someone who gives good 'soundbites' or quotes. This is an essential part of gaining valuable publicity and being asked back. There is no better ‘advertising’ or ‘pr’ than being seen as an educational spokesperson.
- Putting your own agenda across and not letting the journalist sidetrack you.
- Showing confidence. If you're confident or know how to use your 'nerves' for your benefit you're half way there.
- How to take advantage of ‘live interviews’ and to watch out for ‘recorded’ and to be ‘edited’ interviews.
- Learning how to USE the media to your advantage.
- The pitfalls of being in the media spotlight. How to avoid the disasterous results of 'bad interviews'. What not to say.
- How to handle a crisis effectively.
- How to use the media for damage control.
