Specialist Insurer, Dr Tony Valsamakis, alongside learning company, Pearson South Africa, was proud to launch the fifth edition of Risk Management – an essential textbook for all those interested in a financial services and business career.

Co-written by Dr Tony Valsamakis, Prof Robert Vivian, Dr GS du Toit, and Prof J Young, this new edition of Risk Management sees the authors build on their unique and respected model of risk management for students, academics, and professionals.

At the launch, which was hosted in Sandton CBD on 10 March 2022, Dr Valsamakis said, “ It is a pleasure and honour to celebrate the publication of this fifth edition with so many esteemed colleagues and friends, especially after the travails of restrictions wrought by Covid over the last 2-odd years. It is especially relevant to be speaking about risk management at this precarious juncture in time with so many challenges facing us as a global society – the effects of a pandemic and a war in Europe.”

In the context of a fast-moving and ever-evolving business landscape, the fifth edition of Risk Management introduces the following:

an update of the impact of legislation and corporate governance on the discipline;  an update of the King VI Code; a new section on banking risk;  financial instruments update;  the evolution and development of risk financing, following the changes in economic and financial market environments;  a section on sustainable risk; and managing the financial impact of COVID-19 as a pandemic

This textbook is targeted at students who are enrolled in risk management, safety management, financial management and insurance courses at university level. However, Dr Valsamakis  believes this can also form an essential part of any risk management professional’s library.

“This book remains the authoritative South African publication on a subject that has exponentially increased in these unpredictable and risk laden times,” says Dr Valsamakis .

The book will be available for purchase from Van Schaik Bookstore and other leading textbook shops and an eBook version will be on the Pearson eStore and through Pearson’s eBook distribution partners.
