Comtel Communications - differentiating themselves with their fibre offerings
Written by: Save to InstapaperThe fibre revolution is at its peak with little sign of waning, and whilst there are a multitude of businesses offering fibre (both private and parastatal), it is the smaller, privately owned companies who differentiate themselves, that will secure new markets and mediums to ply their services and offerings. With a focus on residential complexes, gated communities, buildings, developments, flat and security estates, Comtel Communications is showing remarkable growth in this sector.
Recognising the potential growth that exists outside of the metro areas that are quickly becoming ‘fibred-up’, and the fact that small business and the consumer have largely been neglected, the group have launched an aggressive growth plan targeting new and existing property developments and outlying areas. The differentiator in terms of their offering lies in the additional benefits they can offer their clients: for example, within a gated community, a building or security estate, fibre for DSTV. The setup is simple and all building services can run efficiently over a single consolidated fibre network with one dish, which is also more aesthetically pleasing.
Adds Dave Couves, CEO of Comtel Communications, “It’s what’s referred to as a Converged Services Network, allowing us to include all sorts of add-ons to our services using fibre technology, affording the client a speedier, less expensive and more efficient service.” This future-proof technology called Quadplay is a service that offers all four media including television broadband, and fixed and mobile telephony using a fibre network that also supports all IP services including DSTV, Internet, Telephones, Intercoms and Access Control, all via one cable.
The benefits for the homeowner, developers, managing agents and body corporates are far-reaching – improved property values and related demand, a choice about which ISP to use (open access), and cost effective and scalable solutions. Comtel also uses it’s wireless network to provide failover for the fibre ensuring uninterrupted internet and telephone services should the fibre fail. In addition, 24 hour support and quick changeover and/or upgrades.
There is no denying that fibre is the future and is defining the way we do things. A more efficient service saves you time and money and with the demand for fibre technology increasing exponentially it is making technology more affordable, generating a drop in data costs and forcing the large Telco’s to rethink their offerings and pricing structures. Furthermore, with the increase in companies entering the local market, the technology and its potential is being promoted, creating competition in the marketplace and contributing to more affordable and viable services for all.
Couves goes on to say that he is excited and positive about the potential of the smaller players in the fibre space to develop affordable solutions that will propel South Africa into the future of improved connectivity and Internet access for all.
