SAIA appoints Danie Matthee as chairperson and welcomes Mohamed Motala to new leadership

Matthee, who previously served as SAIA deputy chairperson, has been with OUTsurance since 2002 and has held several senior leadership roles, including chief executive officer of OUTsurance Life and chief executive officer of Youi Insurance in Australia.

Motala brings three decades of insurance-industry experience to the role. He joined SCOR SE Africa Branch in 2008 and has previously held positions at Credit Guarantee Insurance Corporation of Africa, Swiss Re Africa and Absa Insurance Company.

Matthee sets priorities

Commenting on his appointment, Matthee said, “I am honoured by the confidence the SAIA Board has placed in me. Insurance matters most when things go wrong, and our responsibility is to remain relevant, affordable and trusted. I look forward to working with Mohamed, the Board, Management and our industry partners to build a sustainable and innovative industry that serves South Africans well.”

SAIA congratulates Matthee and Motala on their appointments and looks forward to their leadership and continued contribution to the association and the non-life insurance industry.

SAIA also extends its sincere appreciation to Thusang Mahlangu, the outgoing chairperson and Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty South Africa chief executive officer, for his leadership and dedicated service to the association.

During his tenure, Mahlangu provided valuable leadership to the SAIA Board and supported the association in advancing its mandate to represent and advance the interests of the non-life insurance industry.
