Vuur and Heirloom at Cape Grace present one-off five-course Heritage Weekend collaboration (25–26 Sept)

Taking place over lunch and dinner on 25 and 26 September, the Heritage Weekend experience will bring Vuur's fire-driven, provenance-led approach to the heart of Cape Town for four seatings only.
The result is a meeting of two chefs and two distinct approaches to South African cuisine – united by a shared interest in place, produce and the stories behind the food.

Two approaches, one South African table
Vuur has built its reputation around cooking with fire and a strong connection to provenance, using food to explore the landscapes and ingredients of South Africa.
Heirloom, Cape Grace's in-house restaurant, approaches similar territory through refined dining, drawing on ingredients, memory and technique.
For Heritage Weekend, the collaboration brings those perspectives together.
“South African cooking was never one story, and it was never meant to be,” says Jacobs.
“At Cape Grace, Heirloom gives us a space to bring different voices around the same table and to keep that conversation moving forward. Chef Shaun Scrooby and his team work with fire and with an instinct for place that I have long admired.”
For Jacobs, the collaboration offers an opportunity to explore South African cuisine as something dynamic rather than fixed.
“Bringing that into Heirloom over Heritage Weekend feels like the right way to mark the occasion, in the company of people who care where this cuisine is headed,” he says.
Bringing Vuur to the city
The collaboration also gives Cape Town diners an opportunity to experience Vuur in a different setting.
Located outside the city, Vuur has earned recognition for its distinctive fire-led approach to cooking. The restaurant was awarded Two Stars in the 2026 Eat Out Awards, placing it among South Africa's leading restaurants. It was also named among the Top 10 Cape wine farm restaurants and holds the No. 52 position on the World's Top 101 Steakhouses list.
For the Heritage Weekend collaboration, however, Vuur will leave the farm and bring its approach to the city.
“Fire has always been about place for us – it tells you what's around you and what the land is giving that day,” says Scrooby, chef and owner of Vuur.
“Heirloom works from a different angle, but we're circling the same thing: food that says something true about where it comes from.”
Scrooby says the collaboration creates an opportunity to introduce Vuur's cooking to diners who may not otherwise travel to the restaurant.
“Cooking alongside Wesli and his team for Heritage Weekend, in the city, for guests who might never make it out to the farm, feels like exactly the right way to share that.”
A menu created for one weekend
The centrepiece of the collaboration is a five-course menu paired with wine and created specifically for the occasion.
It will be served across four seatings – lunch and dinner on 25 and 26 September – and will not be repeated.
That once-only approach reflects a growing appetite within the hospitality industry for limited-edition dining experiences that give guests access to collaborations and menus unavailable through a restaurant's regular offering.
For Cape Grace, the event also places food at the centre of its Heritage Month programming, using a collaboration between two South African culinary teams to explore the country's evolving dining culture.
Rather than presenting heritage as something preserved in the past, the Vuur and Heirloom collaboration looks at it as something that continues to evolve – shaped by regional ingredients, inherited knowledge, contemporary technique and the people interpreting those traditions today.
For one weekend, fire and fine dining will share the same table, offering guests two perspectives on South African food – and a reminder that the country's culinary identity is far too diverse to be told through a single story.
