Gauteng couple from LGL Farming Co win Pick n Pay Lamb Champs Pretoria with Persian sheep

The Gauteng-based husband-and-wife team has entered the competition every year since it began in 2022.

From fifth to first

The Lourenses run LGL Farming Co, a family farming operation focused on Persian sheep and lucerne production.

Gerhard is a first-generation farmer and farms with Jani and their two sons. Farming is the family's primary occupation.

After finishing fifth in the Persian sheep category in 2025, the couple took the overall title this year with their Persian sheep entry.

"Their journey from a Top 5 finish last year to being crowned champions this year is exactly the kind of story Lamb Champs was created to celebrate. It reflects years of consistent hard work, careful breeding, and an unwavering commitment to quality," organisers said.

Four years of competition

The couple has competed in every Lamb Champs Pretoria competition since its launch in 2022.

Lamb Champs is a national competition run by Pick n Pay that recognises South African lamb producers based on livestock quality.
