Study - Creator Ads Deliver 23% More Brand Memory Lift Than Brand Ads — Actorvate Urges Memory-Focused Influencer Strategy

They matter. But they don't tell us everything.

New research from WPP Media, System1 and TikTok suggests we should be asking a bigger question: What did the audience actually remember?

The Creator Effectiveness Playbook found that creator ads delivered 23% more Brand Memory Lift than brand ads across the short-form advertising analysed.

Even more surprising: engagement rate showed no significant relationship with Brand Memory Lift.

Someone can love a creator's video, watch it to the end, share it with a friend - and still not remember which brand was behind it.

Hayley Watters, CEO of Actorvate Influencer Marketing

Why does that matter?

Nobody buys a brand they've never heard of.

WPP Media’s How Humans Decide, drawn from 1.2 million purchase journeys, shows that 86% of people buy from a brand that's already in their consideration set. Before anyone taps "add to cart," your brand needs to be remembered, already living in their head.

So what should brands think about when planning their next influencer campaign?

At Actorvate Influencer Marketing, we assist in prioritising the three things:

Creative Quality - Does the content make people feel something, while establishing the brand early enough to own that memory?

Creator Fame - Not simply how many followers someone has, but how recognisable and meaningful they are to the audience you want to reach.

Brand Fit - Does the partnership make sense? Does your brand naturally belong in that creator's world? (The research found Brand Fit mattered even more than Fame - pairing a famous creator with a well-fitted brand nearly doubled Brand Memory Lift versus a poor match.)

When all three come together, the research found Brand Memory Lift could rise to almost four times the weak baseline.

That should change the influencer conversation.

Instead of only asking "How many people will this creator reach?" - brands should also be asking: "When the content is over, will people remember us?"

Actorvate has over 12 years of influencer marketing expertise, working across FMCG, retail, beauty, finance and healthcare categories. Contact us for a tailored influencer marketing strategy - because being seen is useful. Being remembered is far more valuable.
