Written by: TNW Save to Instapaper
Air Zimbabwe plans to acquire six new aircraft over the next three years at a cost of US$775,5 million (R12,6 billion) as part of its five-year strategic plan to grow domestic, regional and international operations.
The plan is backed by the Mutapa Investment Fund and Zimbabwe’s National Treasury and aims to replace the airline’s ageing fleet of Boeing 737s and 767s.
According to the Herald Online, the investment is expected to cover:
- Two aircraft priced at US$49 million (R801,6 million) each, which will increase capacity on the domestic network.
- Two regional jets priced at US$101 million (R1,6 billion) each to grow the market on regional routes.
- Two long-haul, wide-body jets priced at US$225 million (R3,6 billion) each, which will support the return of direct flights to key international destinations.
