Designed around changing customer needs, the branch reflects Absa’s evolving approach to physical banking, combining technology with human guidance for more complex financial decisions. Its location also places it at the heart of a diverse, internationally connected community, supporting customers and businesses linked to Chinese and other cross-border trade corridors.
The branch will serve a broad range of customer segments, including everyday banking customers, affluent and private clients, small businesses and customers requiring international banking support. Features include dedicated advisory spaces, sales and service support, SME desks, international banking services and digital self-service capability, enabling customers to access both expert guidance and convenient everyday banking support in one location.
“Our growth is driven by a simple principle: putting customers at the centre of every decision. The Dragon Square branch is an example of how we are combining technology, data, advice and our physical presence to create more convenient, personalised and connected banking experiences,” said Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, Chief Executive: Personal and Private Banking Pan-Africa, Absa group.
“Branches remain an important part of the customer journey, especially when customers need trusted guidance, human connection and support for more complex financial decisions. Our focus is to make that experience simpler, faster and more relevant.”
Powering business growth
Absa has continued to invest in its branch network as part of a broader shift towards a more modern, digitally enabled and advisory-led service model. This includes using branches differently, improving ease of access, supporting customers with digital adoption, and ensuring that in-person banking remains meaningful for the customers and communities who rely on it.
For small businesses, the branch is designed to provide practical support for growth, cash-flow management, payments, lending, and day-to-day business banking needs. Its location also positions Absa closer to entrepreneurs operating in and around Johannesburg’s international trading communities, where access to banking expertise and cross-border capability can be a meaningful enabler of growth.
“Dragon Square is home to a vibrant community of entrepreneurs and business owners who contribute to economic activity, job creation and trade,” said Faisal Mkhize, Managing Executive: Business Development at Absa Business Banking.
“By bringing personalised SME banking services closer to where businesses operate, we are making it easier for them to access the solutions, insights and relationships they need to unlock sustainable growth.”
The opening of the Dragon Square branch also reflects Absa’s continued commitment to Johannesburg’s economic development and to building banking experiences that are closer to the communities the bank serves. By combining digital convenience with expert human support, Absa aims to ensure customers can choose the channel that best suits their needs, while still having access to trusted advice when it matters most.
