Creative Producer Gobeni Champions Women-Led Influence In South African Media With Bold New Projects
Written by: Media Update Editor Save to Instapaper
Gobeni, known in the entertainment industry as "The Plug", is a creative producer, talent agent, media consultant and Founder of Overcase Recruitment Agency, is redefining what leadership looks like in modern media. Producing shows like 'Deconstructed' on Channel O and curating socially conscious projects such as 'Music in Space' — a fusion of music and climate action — Gobeni aims to fuse creativity with conscience, says the agency.
"Being 'The Plug' isn't just about connections," she says. "It's about creating impact. I don't just connect — I activate."
In a predominantly male-dominated industry, Gobeni's rise is a personal win and a symbol of progress. She aims to lead with emotional intelligence, strategic clarity and to embrace her femininity, adds the agency.
"Femininity is not a flaw — it's a force," says Gobeni.
As South Africa honours the women who shape society, Gobeni acts as a voice for purpose-driven leadership. She aims to remain authentic — walking away from lucrative opportunities that don't align with her values and staying rooted in motherhood, prayer and personal growth, says the agency.
At Overcast Recruitment, Gobeni leads the rise of previously overlooked creative professionals, offering not jobs and opportunities. She turns cultural intuition into a strategy, creating a blueprint for how women can lead with heart and hustle, adds the agency.
As Head of Operations for Music in Space, Gobeni continues to innovate, building platforms where storytelling meets sustainability and women lead the charge in shaping the future, says the agency.
"This is what leadership looks like now," she says. "Layered. Loud. Legacy-driven."
When asked what keeps her grounded, Gobeni concludes, "My son. My purpose. And prayer. That's the real flex — being solid in silence."
