Johannesburg Dubai Flight Route Holds Top 10 Position In Africa With Rising Seat Capacity

Flights between Johannesburg and Dubai once again ranked in the top 10 busiest routes in the African region for January 2026, based on the volume of scheduled airline seats, according to aviation data platform, OAG.
The route ranked 10th in Africa with 97 740 scheduled airline seats in January. The busiest route in the African region was between Cairo and Jeddah, with 522 615 seats.
In 2024, the Joburg-Dubai route also ranked tenth but with 85 014 scheduled airline seats.
Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport ranked third in the top 10 busiest airports in Africa for January 2026, with data based on departing seats. The airport recorded 1 181 804 departing seats, up 9,1% from January last year.
Cairo remains the busiest airport on the continent with 1 750 852 departing seats.
