The milestone brings the global financial platform closer to its planned 2027 launch, although further regulatory hurdles remain.
Revolut must still secure approvals from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Federal Reserve, as well as final OCC approval, before it can establish its proposed US bank and expand its offering to American customers.
Revolut founder and chief executive officer Nik Storonsky said: "Conditional OCC approval is an important first step towards establishing the proposed Revolut Bank US. It gives us the foundation to build in the world's largest financial market and bring the full Revolut experience to millions of Americans."
Revolut US chief executive officer Cetin Duransoy said: "We're grateful for the OCC's open and transparent dialogue throughout this process. They were both diligent and expedient with our application, allowing us to remain on track for a 2027 launch of our proposed national bank.”
Conditional US OCC approval is a significant milestone on Revolut’s journey to become the world's first truly global bank. Once all approvals are received, Revolut will be able to directly offer US customers a wide range of banking products including loans, credit cards, FDIC-insured deposits, as well as access to stablecoins and cryptocurrencies, delivering the full Revolut experience Americans have been waiting for.
Global banking ambitions
The launch of the proposed US bank will build on Revolut's expanding footprint across the Americas, as the company has been rapidly securing banking licenses and launching operations throughout Latin America.
Revolut recently launched its Mexican Bank and has been advancing regulatory efforts in Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Argentina, laying the groundwork for a fully connected financial network across the hemisphere.
Beyond the Americas, Revolut has continued its global push in 2026, obtaining bank licences in France, Australia and the UK, a payments licence in the UAE, and advancing its bank licence application in South Africa.
The company remains on track to reach 100 million customers by mid-2027.
