In 2024 alone, Mustadafin says it dished up 8 847 470 meals — an average of 27 910 meals every week — to children, families and the elderly in need. The new vehicle, officially handed over on Wednesday, 23 April, will significantly improve delivery capacity and help the organisation overcome growing logistical challenges.
"Our food programmes support thousands of children who rely on daily nutrition for cognitive development, school performance and overall wellbeing," says Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, Director of the Mustadafin Foundation. "Without access to proper nutrition, these children are at a major disadvantage. The new vehicle will significantly ease the logistical challenges we've faced in delivering meals to schools and communities. We are incredibly grateful for SAMCT's generous support."
Faried Boltman of SAMCT, says, "This is an organisation deeply committed to serving children healthy, nutritious meals daily, supporting their physical and mental development. We are pleased to be able to partner with Mustadafin, enabling them to more effectively serve widespread communities and deliver major relief efforts for many under-resourced communities."
In addition to food relief, the Mustadafin Foundation says it also runs a winter outreach programme. Each year, approximately 4 000 people receive support in the form of warm meals, blankets and clothing during the coldest months. The foundation has also partnered with Social Development, Disaster Management, providing much-needed disaster relief for those affected by the recent fires and floods.
