Afrirent Holdings has acquired the 99-room Protea Hotel by Marriott Mahikeng in North West province. The hotel will form part of Indalo Hotels and Leisure, which is Afrirent’s hospitality and leisure subsidiary. Afrirent has secured full ownership of the property, not just management rights.
Since entering into a lease agreement to manage the Fountains Hotel in Cape Town in 2021, Afrirent has added assets including Skukuza Golf Club, Ba-Phalaborwa Resort and Golf Club (previously Hans Merensky) and Mane by the Sea Restaurant in Knysna.
Kevin Burley, Group Operations Director at Indalo Hotels and Leisure, said: “Acquiring Protea Hotel by Marriott Mahikeng is a significant step in our vision to establish a distinctly South African hospitality brand. The region’s growing demand for upscale accommodations, coupled with the hotel’s operational strength, make it an ideal addition to our portfolio.”
