Think you have what it takes to master the BIG5?
Swimming, cycling and running mixed with food, wine-tastings, live music and lots of oysters – that’s what you can expect at the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival from 1 to 10 July 2016. With more than 100 activities spread over ten days there will be no shortage of fun. But, if the idea of a week of nothing but indulgence leaves you restless why not sign up for the BIG5 Sport Challenge?
The BIG5 Sport Challenge not only offers the unique opportunity to experience some of South Africa’s most spectacular natural scenery while enjoying the sport you love, but the impressive multisport event has gained massive popularity over the last few years and has become a bucket list ‘must’ on the local and international endurance and adventure race calendar.
From mountain biking and running in and around Knysna’s famed forests and hills, to swimming in the lagoon in full view of the iconic Knysna Heads, the BIG5 Sport Challenge offers something for athletes across all fitness and skills levels. Participants will compete in five events over the course of Knysna Oyster Festival week, and a point system will be used to determine the winners. The BIG5 Lite offers four pre-determined events with athletes choosing a fifth from a selection of three other disciplines.
Participants taking on the BIG5 Sport Challenge can look forward to competing in the following events:
- The Momentum Weekend Argus Knysna Cycle Tour MTB Race (80km);
- The Momentum Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon (21.1km);
- The Featherbed Trail Run (15km);
- Dragons Featherbed Lagoon Mile Swim (1.6km); and
- The Momentum Health OatWell DualX, powered by PeptoPro (5km Run | 30km MTB | 2.5km Run)
A one-stop registration process, preferred seeding for all five events, free access to the individual award ceremonies and the overall prize-giving event at the end of the challenge are some of the benefits of taking on this ‘Bucket List’ challenge.
A limited field of 125 entries are available for the BIG5 and 125 entries for the BIG5 Lite. With both races already 60% sold out this promises to be an ‘early bird gets the worm’ scenario so hurry and register today!
