SOUTH AFRICAN ROLLER SPORTS TEAMS GEAR UP FOR WORLD SKATE GAMES 2024 IN ITALY
Submitted by: Roller Sport South Africa[14 August 2024] – South Africa's roller sports teams are preparing to participate on the world stage as they head to Italy for the World Skate Games 2024 this September. Our national teams, competing in Inline Speed Skating, Artistic Roller Skating, Skateboarding, and Roller Hockey, are ready to showcase their talent and determination, representing the vibrant spirit of South African sports.
World Skate Games is a multi-sport World Championships event held every two years for World Skate’s 12 roller sports. It is one of the most significant events in the global roller sports calendar and it brings together the best athletes from around the world, with an estimated participation of over 12,000 people from 100 countries worldwide. For South Africa, this event is an opportunity to shine, with our teams gearing up to compete against the best of the best.
However, our teams face a significant challenge: funding for their team kits, which are essential for proudly representing South Africa on the international stage. These uniforms are more than just clothing; they symbolise the hard work, dedication, and national pride of our athletes as they compete on behalf of our country.
Roller Sport South, the official governing body for roller sports in the country, is doing all it can to support our athletes in their journey to achieve excellence. As a non-profit organisation that relies on funding, volunteers and donations, Roller Sport South Africa has launched a BackaBuddy campaign to raise the necessary funds to ensure our athletes are properly equipped and can step onto the world stage with the confidence and unity that comes from wearing their national colours.
The Backabuddy campaign is now live, and Roller Sport South Africa is appealing to all South Africans to contribute and share the campaign widely. Every donation, no matter how small, brings our athletes closer to competing in Italy with the full support of their nation behind them.
