JOHANNESBURG, 11 APRIL 2017 – Jeep Team’s eight-time World Canoe Marathon Champion, multiple SA Flat Water Marathon Champion, multiple SA River Marathon Champion, and multiple SA Surfski Champion, Hank McGregor, has been nominated for the Sport Industry Personality of the Year Award at the 2017 Discovery Sport Industry Awards. An exciting feature of the award is that the winner will be selected by members of the public via an online voting system. The newly-launched Sport Personality of the Year Award has been established to recognise and honour individuals who have made a significant impact to the sport industry and excelled both on and off the field. Nominated alongside McGregor for the 2017 Sport Personality of the Year is Douglas Ryder (Ryder Cycling, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka), John Comitis (Cape Town City Football Club), and Mimi Mthethwa-Zulu (Netball South Africa).
To be nominated for the Sport Industry Personality of the Year, sporting personalities should have had a distinguished year in the sport industry, demonstrated how they improved their immediate environments, and be someone who has used PR, marketing, social media, sport marketing and CSI to innovatively and creatively raise their sport’s profile and that of the sports industry.
Says McGregor, “I am honoured to be nominated for Sport Industry Personality of the Year at the Discovery Sport Industry Awards. A big congrats to all nominees.” Discovery Sport Industry Awards is on the 18 May at the Sandton Convention Centre.
