Astron Energy is proud to announce its Tier 1 sponsorship of the inaugural Simbine Classic Athletics Meet, a bold new addition to South Africa’s track and field calendar, led by Olympic sprint star Akani Simbine.
The Simbine Classics will take place on 28 April 2026, in Pretoria and marks the first time a Continental Tour Silver meeting will be hosted in South Africa. This positions the country on the global athletics calendar and within the elite of World Athletics competitions. It also opens doors for emerging talent to test themselves at home, in front of a national audience.
A Landmark Event for South African Athletics
The meet is expected to attract around 120 leading local and international elite athletes from across Africa and international circuits. The programme includes sprint, middle-distance, hurdles, jumps, throws, relays and youth events, creating a platform for both established and emerging talent.
Driving Performance On and Off the Track
Astron Energy’s association with world-class athletics reflects its broader commitment to exceptional performance. This is anchored in the use of its unique Quartech premium fuel additive in each litre of gasoline and diesel designed to support cleaner combustion and consistent engine performance. It even reduces foaming at the pump, so even filling up goes faster.
“Just as athletes fine-tune every stride, Quartech is formulated to help vehicles perform at their best,” said John Bailey, General Manager: Retail and Marketing at Astron Energy. “The parallel is intentional: performance is built and maintained, not assumed. Our partnership with Simbine reflects our belief in enabling peak performance, on the road through Quartech innovation and on the track through world-class competition. We are proud to support a platform that celebrates South African talent and ambition.”
“We’ve always believed that performance starts with quality,” Bailey added. “Whether on the track or on the road, it’s about showing up prepared and delivering when it matters most.”
A Vision for African Excellence
Simbine said the event signals a new chapter for athletics on the continent. “This meet is about showing what Africa can deliver at a global level. Having Astron Energy on board as a Tier 1 sponsor strengthens that vision.”
“Astron Energy stands with every athlete,” said Bailey. “Whether you’re just beginning your journey or a seasoned competitor, this is your moment. Today is yours.”
