Services Profile
The principle operational function of SCLI lies in rehabilitating areas and ecosystems that have been invaded and degraded by invasive alien plants. This rehabilitation involves using physical and chemical (approved) methods. SCLI also provides specialist environmental project planning support including geographical information system (GIS) planning support. We focus on an all-inclusive service that can be tailored to meet clients’ needs and the specific demands of every stage of developing and implementing a successful invasive alien plant strategy that complies with relevant legislation. Detailed services include species mapping, training and education, stakeholder management, public relations and water management. As required by the regulations, we assist in evaluating the risks posed by restricted activity involving listed invasive alien plants. We are also responsible for providing restoration strategies to aid the recovery of natural areas where IAPs have been removed. Our area of speciality is ecological infrastructure and the services they provide, like built infrastructure and services. They play an essential role in supporting social development and economic prosperity, and keeping communities safe. The economic benefits of clearing invasive alien plants such as creating employment opportunities and the economic empowerment of communities are well recognised. We assist clients in creating secondary industry opportunities such as furniture making, firewood and energy generation from invasive alien plant biomass extracted during clearing operations.
