Written by: Marc Ashton Save to Instapaper{pp}Are you a young adult with Entrepreneurial flair? Are you a parent who has a child who knows it all and has already told you they don't need education, because they are going to go into business for themselves and make a fortune? You are? Then have you heard about the Small Business Toolbox for Scholars?
The Small Business Toolbox is a workshop run by Rival Industrial aimed at entrepreneurs of all ages considering going into business for themselves. Rival has decided to run a series of these workshops across Gauteng aimed specifically at young adults (Grades 10 - 12), recent matriculants and young students. i.e. NO ADULTS to interfere in the business making decisions! The workshops are presented by entrepreneur Marc Ashton who runs Rival - a Wellness and Publishing company based in Albertville."We were involved in a project for the Ekurhuleni Metro council running workshops on an Introduction to Financial Wellness in their community libraries. One of the big things that came through was that there were a number of youngsters craving information on trying to launch a Small Business" says Ashton. "I know I use to drive my parents insane when I used to tell them that I didn't need an education and I would be able to go into business for myself and my life would be sorted. Funny enough it didn't quite work out that way. It was a 2 year slog just to get going and these workshops will be a fun way to communicate this message to other young entrepreneurs while giving them a realistic idea of what self employment is about." he adds. The workshop will cover the following:- Going into business for yourself – Realities and Challenges- Why Skills and Learning are essential for the SME – Even if you won’t believe your parents!- Why your SME can be part of your career- A team and experience goes a long way- Why you need to know Sales & Marketing if you want to go into business for yourself- Budgeting for your SME- Understanding Cash Flow -Why cash is the life blood of any business- Role of Public Relations to kick start your business- The business plan and financing your SMEAll delegates will receive a complete set of documentation providing a Toolbox from which to layout their business. The workshops will be held on a Saturday morning from 9:00 - 13:00 around Gauteng.
